A handful of angry protestors today blocked newly confirmed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, DC schools chancellor Antoine Wilson, and the DeVos entourage from entering a Washington, DC middle school today.
According to multiple sources, several parents and retired teachers held a "vigil" outside Jefferson Middle School. When DeVos arrived, several protesters physically blocked the stairway into the back of the school.
As one protester accused DeVos of buying her seat on Trump's cabinet and shouted "Go back! Shame! Shame! Shame!" DeVos and her group retreated into the official vehicle and departed.
One man was arrested for blocking the limosine as it tried to leave the school.
It should be noted that a much larger group of activists was gathered in front of the school to protest DeVos' visit.
The events with Devos took place at a back entrance to the school where, apparently, DeVos had hoped to slip in unnoticed.
DeVos and Wilson finally made it into the school later. Following the visit, DeVos issued a statement which said, “I respect peaceful protest, and I will not be deterred in executing the vital mission of the Department of Education. No school door in America will be blocked from those seeking to help our nation’s school children.”
